Japan's Tree-Nut Fashion Brand — World Debut
A material revolution,
finally going global.
KAPOK KNOT was born from a singular obsession: replace down with something better. After ¥50M+ raised on crowdfunding, 10+ design awards, and a debut at Milano Unica — the world's leading fabric fair — we're bringing Japan's most innovative jacket to the world.
Kishow Fukai — Founder, KAPOK KNOT
Kapok grows wild across Southeast Asia. The fiber is harvested from the seed pods of the kapok tree — no cutting, no clearing. The more you harvest, the more the tree grows. Every jacket supports rural farming communities in Indonesia.
Kapok fiber is too short to spin into thread — or so we were told. We spent five years working with Japan's leading textile engineers to solve this. The result: KapokFill™, a patent-pending insulation sheet that holds fiber without spinning it — 30% kapok blended with recycled fibers. Designed and engineered in Tokyo, Japan.

AirLight Jacket vs. Traditional Down — Same warmth. Zero animals.
Everything down promises.
Finally delivered.
Traditional down jackets weigh 800g–1kg. The AirLight Jacket weighs just 500g — the same as a water bottle. You'll forget you're wearing it.
Thermographic testing at 3°C confirms identical heat retention to traditional down — just 1 minute after putting it on. Kapok's hollow fiber structure traps heat naturally.
One down jacket uses feathers from ~30 birds. Ours uses zero. Vegan-friendly kapok fiber grows on trees and is harvested from seed pods — no cutting, no cruelty, no compromise.
Plant-based DWR coating delivers 20x the water resistance of a standard umbrella. Down collapses when wet and takes days to dry. The AirLight keeps performing — and washes easily at home.
Our founder personally visits the kapok farms, processing factories, and garment makers in Southeast Asia — cutting out middlemen to guarantee quality and fair pricing.
Built for cities like Sydney and Melbourne, where a 10°C morning turns into a 22°C afternoon. At just 500g, the AirLight layers over a tee in autumn, under a shell on cold winter days, and packs flat for spring trips — one jacket that earns its place three seasons a year.

I'd been searching for animal-free outerwear for so long — and I finally found it. Thank you to everyone who made this jacket.
What surprised me first: it's so light yet properly warm, and wind barely gets through. My down jacket was too bulky for packed trains — the AirLight slips on and off easily. And in sudden rain it beaded water like a brand-new umbrella. (178cm / 78kg, size LL)
Lighter, warmer and better-looking than I imagined. I honestly think everyone should stop buying new real-down jackets and switch to kapok. I wear mine with confidence.
As warm as down, but none of that sweaty feeling when you step indoors from the cold. And it's so light I kept checking whether I was actually wearing it.
I saw it on TV and doubted something this thin could be warm — then I tried it. The cinchable waist and zip pockets are lovely details. I want to buy one for my parents in snow country.
Down is too hot on planes and trains, and heavy once you take it off. Light down was too cold. This jacket solved both — even cold gusts didn't get through.

Thermographic testing at 3°C shows the AirLight Jacket reaches the same surface temperature as a traditional down jacket within 1 minute of wear. It's designed to cover you comfortably from around 0°C to 15°C depending on your activity level.
Kapok is a natural fiber harvested from the seed pods of the kapok tree, native to Southeast Asia. Unlike cotton, no tree cutting is required — the pods simply fall and the fluff is collected. The fiber is hollow, making it naturally lightweight and thermally efficient. KAPOK KNOT has developed a process to transform this fiber into a high-performance insulation sheet called EthicalDown Kapok™.
Yes. Unlike down jackets that require dry cleaning, the AirLight Jacket can be machine washed on a gentle, cold-water cycle. Kapok fiber does not clump or degrade with repeated washing.
Shipping: Free worldwide shipping on the first 100 launch orders (standard rate applies afterwards). Orders are dispatched from Japan within 3–5 business days; international delivery typically takes 7–14 days.
Returns: As a special launch-edition offer at 20% off, we are unable to accept change-of-mind returns on launch orders. If your item arrives faulty, damaged or not as described, we will replace or refund it at our cost — this always applies, including your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. Questions about sizing before you order? Email service@kapok-knot.com — we respond within 2 business days.
Depending on your country, customs duties and import taxes may be charged when your parcel arrives — these are set by your local customs authority and are not included in our prices. As a guide: the US applies duties on apparel imports, the EU applies VAT plus duty above €150, and Australia applies 10% GST. We mark all parcels accurately and are working to bring duty-inclusive checkout to our store.
The AirLight Jacket is designed with a relaxed, slightly oversized fit. If you prefer a fitted look, we recommend sizing down. Detailed size charts are available on the product page.
Yes, on multiple levels. Kapok requires no irrigation, no pesticides, and no tree cutting. Our founder personally maintains direct contracts with farms and processing facilities in Southeast Asia. Increased kapok demand also drives reforestation in the region.
