THE MATERIAL — KAPOK
Kapok is a wild-grown fiber from Southeast Asian seed pods — hollow, breathable, and warm like down, with zero birds involved. After years of development in Japan, we turned it into EthicalDown Kapok™: a patent-pending insulation sheet, and the heart of every jacket we make.
Functional Proof
The numbers behind the AirLight difference.
Thermal image, 1 minute after wear, in a 3°C room.
At the same weight, our kapok insulation holds its own against a polyester down coat in this three-way thermal comparison.
Recycled nylon shell · plant-based coating · kapok sheet · anti-static lining.
Four layers working together — warmth without bulk, rain without worry.
Water-repellency demonstration
A plant-based water-repellent coating keeps you dry from the daily commute to the outdoors.
Farm to Fashion
From the farm to your hands.Every step, ours.
Meet the people behind every step — on film, and in person.
Our founder visits every farm and signs every contract in person. Kapok is harvested from seed pods — no trees are ever cut.
Five years of development with Japan's top textile engineers created the patent-pending EthicalDown Kapok™ sheet.
Every AirLight Jacket is designed and engineered in Tokyo, built around our made-in-Japan kapok fabric.

Light as air, warm as down, with a waist drawcord to shape the silhouette and brushed lining for extra comfort.

Down jackets are too hot indoors and bulky to carry once you take them off. This is the first jacket light enough to pack away, and warm enough for real cold.
Light, warm, water-resistant even in light rain — and zero animal products. Already recommended it to my whole family.
Wasn't sure I believed the thin-yet-warm claim until I put it on. The adjustable waist drawstring is a nice touch, and the zippered pockets fit my phone and wallet perfectly.

A Message From Our Founder
I'm Kisho Fukai, founder of KAPOK KNOT — and the fourth generation of a Japanese textile family.
Growing up inside the apparel industry, I saw its mass-production, mass-waste system up close. Then I found kapok, and knew instantly: this is the material I want to spend my life on.
We seriously believe this fiber can help save the world. Every piece we make carries that conviction — with the consumer, the producer, and the planet all in view.
A sustainable business, built on sustainable materials — with a share of profits going back into environmental regeneration.
A supply chain we built ourselves, from raw material to customer — fair to the people who make it.
Kapok's lightness and warmth let us make outerwear that's thin and stylish, without the bulk.
FAQ
Our sizing follows Japanese standards, which run smaller than US/AU/EU sizing — Japanese S is roughly an international XS. We recommend ordering one size up from what you'd normally wear.
Orders ship from Japan within 3–5 business days; international delivery typically takes 7–14 days. If your item arrives faulty or not as described, we'll replace or refund it at our cost — your statutory consumer rights (including under Australian Consumer Law for AU customers) always apply.
The heart of every jacket — our EthicalDown Kapok™ insulation fabric — is developed and made in Japan, from kapok grown in Southeast Asia. Each AirLight Jacket is designed and engineered in Tokyo.
“Knot” refers to a bond, a tie. Our mark uses the “ayamusubi” knot — a Japanese cord style known for how strong and lasting it is, symbolizing our approach to sustainability.
Press-wash gently in lukewarm water (below 30°C) with a neutral detergent. Skip the dryer — lay flat in a shaded, ventilated spot.
